Alternative Festival & Heartnoize Promotion present:
~ KEVIN RICHARD MARTIN & PEDRO MAIA:
FREQUENCIES FOR LEAVING EARTH AV
For the opening evening of the 28th year of Alternativa, a festival merged with Heartnoize promotion group – the result is the Czech premiere of an audiovisual performance by two artists who do not know what compromise is. The Bug, Techno Animal, King Midas Sound or Zonal – Kevin Richard Martin’s projects have always been among those that have explored the possibilities of electronic music, often to the extreme.
Together with the award-winning Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Maia, Martin will present his opus Frequencies for Leaving Earth.
Five albums released in 2020 and recorded in Martin’s new home studio in Brussels launched the Intercranial Recordings label, a new home for Martin’s projects.
“The mood expressed on this recording is simply overwhelmingly beautiful,” writes the Electronica server about his music, which happens to resemble the deafening waves of the sea tide in its parts.
The extraterrestrial experience is evoked by the bass bottoms and the hypnotic tension between the rich sound components. The echoes of drone, jazz and archival soundtracks of sci-fi films are mixed in a collage, which shows Martin’s love of sound frequencies the most.
Experimental filmmaker Pedro Maia works mainly with film material, the potential of which he explores in various projects that expand the aesthetics and technical possibilities of this traditional medium. For example, he has collaborated with Patti Smith, Charlotte Gainsbourg or the producer Vessel and exhibited in the world’s leading galleries such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and MACBA Barcelona. For Frequencies for Leaving Earth, Maia was not satisfied with just two dimensions, and with the help of projectors, lights and a hashtag, he created an immersive show. There is no doubt that the combination of these two artists will bring monumental, contemplative and, most importantly dense experience to the beginning of the festival.
