New weird Britain the way we like it best. London-based band Black Country, New Road is coming to Prague with their new album Forever Howlong. Their experiments at the boundaries of several genres with the prefix post have been reaping success since 2019.
BC,NR emerged from the scene around London’s Windmill Club. With their debut album For the first time, they were already shortlisted for the Mercury Prize – thanks largely to their wide range of genres from post-punk to jazz and their playful fusion of them, the then seven-piece British band gained widespread popularity among critics and audiences alike. Their second album, Ants From Up There, was no less successful, although just before its release, frontman Isaac Woods left the band for personal reasons. However, the remaining six friends, Lewis Evans, May Kershaw, Georgia Ellery, Luke Mark, Tyler Hyde and Charlie Wayne, decided to carry on and create new music, no less varied and liberating than that of the original line-up. The latest record gains strong female voices compared to previous recordings, and with it, new themes. Forever Howlong also promises new musical positions, from folk to baroque opulence, and is released on the Ninja Tune label.
BC,NR are unafraid of change and evolution, as the power of mutual friendship has held them together throughout their career. During their concerts, they showcase the interplay of instruments from saxophone to guitar to violin standing up and drawing the audience into the midst of emotionally charged, sometimes even euphoric situations. The interconnectedness of the players and the joy of creating together has given rise to one of the most remarkable island bands of our time.
