Grouper returns to Prague after 17 years. The project by composer, singer, and visual artist Liz Harris is one of the most distinctive names in intimate ambient, drone, and ethereal singer-songwriting. As part of the 34th edition of the Alternativa Festival, we will jointly present her at the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude.

Liz Harris lives and works on the Oregon coast. Her music blends a veiled voice, a guitar blurred within lo-fi textures, and subtle sonic details into intimate compositions that intertwine melancholy, alienation, and delicate lyrics.

From the breakthrough album 𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘋𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘜𝘱 𝘢 𝘏𝘪𝘭𝘭, through 𝘙𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘴, all the way to 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘦, Grouper creates music that feels delicate but stays with you for a very long time. Introverted songs, ambient haze, drone elements, and a melancholy that needs no grand gestures.

Grouper’s return to Prague will be one of the highlights of this year’s Alternativa. And we believe that the sacred space of the Church of St. Simon and Jude provides exactly the setting in which silence can resonate just as powerfully as a voice.
