Doom folk and dark ambient, with catharsis perhaps awaiting at the end. As part of a double concert at Prague’s Letohrádek Hvězda, Polish composer and musician Martyna Basta will perform alongside the Irish duo One Leg One Eye, whose founding member, Ian Lynch, is also a member of the band Lankum. The international guests will be accompanied by the Prague-based duo Aldana Duoraan and Tomáš Niesner, who will present their new album 𝘗𝘭𝘰𝘵.

One Leg One Eye operates in the realm of drone and doom folk, delving deep into mythology and the Irish soul in their dark ballads. Their album released this year, 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘦, is conceived as a sonic prayer. The four-track album reimagines traditional compositions and vocal techniques, turning to ancient stories, anger, fury, and the beauty of the deities who rule over humanity.

Polish composer, singer, and producer Martyna Basta moves between ambient, folk, and art-pop in her work, while drawing on her musical training in acoustic guitar. She weaves ethereal vocals with field recordings and carefully crafted electronics, creating dreamlike yet intimate spaces where one can rest for a moment.

On the collaborative album 𝘗𝘭𝘰𝘵, Niesner’s guitar—simplified to pentatonic scales—meets the Yakut brumle played by Aldana Duoraan. 𝘗𝘭𝘰𝘵 develops hypnotic melodies and rhythms, oscillating between playfulness and focused musical meditation.

In addition to support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Prague City Hall, this event is also made possible with the contribution of the Museum of Czech Literature, a memory institution of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Through manuscripts, books, letters, illustrations, and contemporary audiovisual art, the Museum of Czech Literature tells the stories of Czech literature and its creators. At the Museum of Literature and the Letohrádek Hvězda, the Memorial organizes temporary exhibitions that present the lives and works of well-known and lesser-known figures and artistic groups within the broader contexts of literature, culture, and society.

The Letohrádek Hvězda is a unique Renaissance building with a six-pointed star floor plan, set within the grounds of the game reserve of the same name on Bílá Hora. From spring through fall, exhibitions focusing on literature, art, and history are held here. Visitors can also explore a permanent exhibition dedicated to the summer palace’s founder, Ferdinand II of Tyrol, as well as the history of the building and its extraordinary architecture.
